Sailing enthusiasts who may not be able to see the Olympic events in Weymouth this year can always catch the action at one of Britain’s premiere annual boating events, the Fowey Royal Regatta. The 2012 Regatta will take place in Fowey, Cornwall immediately post Olympics, August 19 -25.
Each summer the sleepy ancient town and port of Fowey is transformed when thousands of visitors descend on it to join in the Regatta which provides a fun-filled week for sailors and landlubbers alike. As well as the serious racing on the water there is a carnival parade, fireworks displays, live music and fun events such as crab catching, raft racing and pasty eating competitions. Over the years the Regatta has attracted a raft of royalty including Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and Queen Elizabeth II.
Not surprisingly accommodation is hard to find in Fowey during Regatta week but nearby are two premiere hotel and loge spa resorts which provide ideal bases from which to visit the event and also enjoy the many other attractions in Cornwall during August. Our sister resort, Hustyns, is a luxury country hotel with an exclusive health and beauty spa is just outside the historic town of Wadebridge while our CLC Trenython Manor is an elegant English stately home converted into a hotel with country lodges and a spa overlooks St Austell Bay.
